Hamp’s TigerPress Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Expansion Plans

NORTHAMPTON, MASS – TigerPress announced upcoming expansion plans to include a 13,125 square foot addition to their manufacturing facility located at 155 Industrial Park Drive.
Originally located in Amherst, TigerPress moved to Northampton’s Industrial Park in 1997 occupying 4,000 square feet of the building.

The printing company expanded into the rest of the building soon thereafter, and added an 8,000 square foot addition in 2002. They also increased output capacity with the addition of two Komori printing presses—a four-color press and an automated six-color press with inline coating capability.

Gala festivities to include an open house are also in the works. “This is an exciting way to commemorate our 20th birthday,” said Reza M. Shafii, president and owner of TigerPress. “We started one CopyCat Print Shop in 1985 with just two employees. We want to celebrate our success by showing our appreciation for our customers, our employees and the community.”
TigerPress currently employs 50 people, 35 of them at the plant on Industrial Drive. Another 20 are employed at six CopyCat locations in MA & VT. Shafii estimates they will create another 15 to 30 jobs in the next 3 years.

The expansion includes the creation of a new TigerPress division: TigerExpress. “TigerExpress will employ digital print technology,” Mr. Shafii said. “Digital printing offers fast turnaround and competitive pricing for short runs. Demand for this service is growing.  TigerPress is committed to keeping current with technology.”

TigerPress maintains a digital workflow allowing customers to upload graphic files to an FTP site. The files are prepared for printing in pre-press, then delivered to an automated plate making machine, bypassing the film stripping stage of traditional printing.

With additional sheet fed printing presses and bindery equipment under consideration, Mr. Shafii estimates the total cost of the project at $5,000,000. Completion of the project is targeted for the year 2007.

With a wide range of printing options, TigerPress offers comprehensive solutions for the media requirements of corporations, colleges, hospitals, design firms, banks and other business institutions.

Komori Lithrone 40" 6-Color Press with Aqueous Coating

Lithrone presses are designed and built for high productivity and high print quality. Consistent, stable sheet feeding and delivery are critical to this mission. Komori has spared no effort to ensure that feeder and delivery units perform reliably and predictably in sustained high-speed operation and still maintain the highest standard of print quality.

Komori machines are renowned for print quality without compromise. The Lithrone's printing units are engineered with micron-order precision. Press rigidity and stable high-speed operation provide the foundation for application of the PDC-S SpectroDensitometer. This technology maintains print quality through digital color management and for integrated print quality control via the PQC system. The result is unrivaled image reproduction.

Digital Color Proofs Now Available!

RamPage Digital Workflow with Epson 10000 Digital Proofing

In keeping with our goal to be a leader in the use of modern technology, TigerPress has installed the RamPage digital workflow system and added an Epson 10000 wide-format digital proofer. The Rampage workflow is fully ICC compliant allowing us to color manage our entire workflow. All of our systems including scanners, proofing and presses are now color managed to provide an accurate match between digital proofs and the finished product. The RamPage RIP also has an excellent trapping algorithm which improves the quality of spot and process color work.

The Epson 10000 is the very latest in wide-format ink jet technology incorporating a Variable Droplet Micro Piezo® DX3™ print head to produce accurate shadows, highlights and flat tints. Wide-format means we can produce 'digital bluelines' to show imposition and folding. 'Digital bluelines', know as imposition proofs are much easier to read than traditional bluelines since they are in color and on white paper.
